Abstract — Electrochemical methods for the removal of chlorides from the steel–concrete interface are consid-ered. A sufficient reduction in the chloride concentration in the interface layer is shown to suppress the corro-sion of reinforcing steel bars. However, it is inevitably accompanied by a decrease in the mechanical strength of the steel–concrete contact and, correspondingly, a probable accelerated destruction of reinforced concrete structures.
