Abstract—Based on the model taking into account the appearance of a morphological instability and the evolution of a surface with time during the selective anodic dissolution of a homogeneous A–B alloy with the predominant content of the electrochemically negative metal A, equations for the critical potential Ecr and over potential cr of the surface development are derived. Criteria of the nature of chemical hindrances of the selective dissolution in the over-critical range are formulated. The Ecr and cr values corresponding to the breakage of the morphological stability of the A–B alloy surface (with the atomic silver part XAg = 0.65 to 0.95) in an acidicnitrate solution containing diverse amounts of silver ions (10frame14 to 10frame22 M) are experimentally found. The character of the effect of the atomic gold content in the alloy and the concentration of silver ions in the solution oncr and Ecr values of the alloys is determined. The nature of the kinetic limitations of the selective dissolution in the over-critical potential range is clarified.

Abstract — Anodic dissolution of nickel and nickel silicide in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution in the presence of halide and thiocyanate ions is studied with the use of cyclic voltammetry. Main regularities of the effect of anions on the mechanism and kinetics of the anodic dissolution of the metal and its silicide are found. The results obtained reveal different nature of the passivation processes and different compositions of the oxide films formed on Ni and NiSi.

Abstract — Regularities of the anodic dissolution and processes of local activation of -Fe + Fe3C nanocomposites containing 9 to 92 mol % of cementite are studied. It is shown that the sequence of anodic processes in borate solutions is the same for pH 6.3 and 7.4, namely, the dissolution and passivation of the ferrite component, dissolution and passivation of the cementite component, and anodic oxygen evolution at the nanocomposites' passive surface. With an increase in the pH the passivation potentials decrease, which agrees with a thermodynamic model of the formation of two-layer passive film Fe3O4/-Fe2O3. It is found that the chloride concentration range, in which the local activation of -Fe + Fe3C is possible, narrows with an increase in the cementite content.

Abstract — The co-reduction of cobalt and molybdate ions with dimethylamine borane in pyrophosphate solutions is shown to produce Co–Mo–B alloy coatings. Molybdate is reduced concurrently with cobalt to metal forming a solid solution in cobalt matrix with a hexagonal lattice. The alloy deposits have a pronounced [001] texture with the easy magnetization direction normal to the coating surface. The composition of alloys is het-erogeneous in their thickness. The alloys contain cobalt and molybdenum hydroxide admixtures, as well as intermediate products of molybdenum reduction, in the superficial layers.

Abstract — Oxide films 5–8-m thick are obtained on titanium in aqueous Zr(SO4)2 bath by the plasma-electrolytic method. Depending on the electrolyte pH, the film contain either zirconium and titanium with ZrO2 + TiO2 phases or titanium and TiO2. The resulting dense films with limited water wettability are of interest as potential protective coatings.

Abstract — Results of studies that relate the stages of coating formation with the properties of the coatings, formed on an aluminum alloy of the Al–Cu–Mg system from silicate alkaline baths by asymmetric ac current, are presented. The specific features are elucidated and the sequence in the formation of layered coatings and their phase composition is shown. The dependences of the limiting thickness of the overall coating, as well as a layer strengthened on the current asymmetry, are found. The coatings are characterized by the nonuniform distribution of microhardness not only along the surface but also throughout the coating thickness, which is caused by the structural heterogeneity and the phase composition, which in turn, are related with the peculiar-ities of the coating formation by asymmetric ac current.

Abstract — It is shown that, depending on the nature of a substituent R in the molecule of addition agent, the electroactive species in the electron transfer may be either 2:1 metal–ligand complexes or more stable 1:1 ones. In the former case, the complexes formed in the surface layer blockade the electrode surface, increase '-potential and thus impede the metal ion discharge; their inhibitive action increases with an increase in the ligand concentration. In the latter case, the complex formation makes the adsorption film be more permeable and thus accelerates the electroreduction reaction. An increase in the addition agent concentration is accompanied with a decrease in its inhibiting effectiveness.

Abstract — The method of studying wettability is analyzed in application to the fundamental problems of the physical chemistry of surfaces, such as the structure and properties of interfaces and the characteristics of processes on them, and to the technological aspects related to the development of novel materials. The digital processing of a sessile drop image recently developed provides a qualitatively new accuracy of measuring the contact angle. Besides that, a high speed of mathematical processing of the data in these methods enables one not only to follow the changes in the system parameters, but also create a feedback for the directed control over the parameters. Experimental devices that allow one to study various geometries of interfaces, including a pendant drop, a sessile drop, and a drop on a filament, are described. Factors that affect the contact angle on heterogeneous surfaces are analyzed. The accumulated fundamental knowledge about the relation between the measured contact angle and the properties of the surface studied, in one cases, enables one to get quickly a reliable and detailed information about the roughness, chemical composition, and topology of the surface without using expensive equipment, while in some other cases, provides an additional information that makes it possible to clarify the mechanisms of the interfacial phenomena studied. As examples, some most interesting experimental results concerning the properties of interfaces and the processes proceeding on them are considered.
