Abstract — Corrosion-electrochemical behavior of chromium coatings at steel substrates (40frame0, 20frame113, and 12frame218frame310frame4) in concentrated (318 g/l) NaCl solution at elevated temperatures is studied, in particular, under conditions of friction against rubber (thus modeling the mine screw-driller rotor operation conditions). By and large, the chromium coatings in the studied solution have fairly good corrosion stability. However, when through pores occur in the coatings, chromium–steel galvanic couples are formed, in which chromium is the anode, and steel, the cathode. This causes intense corrosion damage to the coating in close proximity to the pores. Steel undergoes no corrosion here. It is the Cr-coating porosity that gives rise to its accelerated degradation under the friction, although friction as such does not accelerate the corrosion catastrophically.

Abstract — Kinetics of phosphating MA 21 magnesium–lithium alloys in a zinc–nitrate–phosphate solution (0.25frame1 Zn2+ + 0.34 frame2 frame3frame4 + 0.17 frame5 Nframe6 + 0.02 frame7 Fframe8, pH = 2.7) at 25°C is studied with various surface preparation procedures. The effect of the alloy surface pretreatment in titanium-containing activating solutions on the electrochemical process rate and the initial stage of the phosphate film crystallization is revealed. Peculiarities of the phosphate film growth during different stages of the magnesium–lithium alloy phosphating are elu-cidated. Combining the activating pretreatment with zinc–phosphate bath allows accelerated applying finegrain thin phosphate conversion layers with enhanced protective effect on magnesium–lithium alloys.

Abstract — A possibility of the cathodic deposition of copper-containing nanopowders from organo-aqueous electrolyte solutions is studied. The dimension of particles is corroborated with a transmission electron microscope. Additions of low-molecular surfactants to aqueous electrolyte solutions lead to a decrease in the limiting cathodic currents thus promoting the formation of finely dispersed powder.

Abstract — The oxidation kinetic peculiarities of traditional and prospective steels utilized in manufacturing hot-rolled enameled pipes are considered. The oxidation conditions, as well as its limiting stages, in a temperature range of 500–900°C, are determined. The x-ray diffraction analysis was applied to determine the composition of the scale formed. Ways of selecting the optimum temperature–time conditions of roasting the metal before its enameling are recommended.

Abstract — Effects of bench loading and stresses on the corrosion resistance of frame016frame1frame2 alloy are studied. Complicated effect of the stress intensity and the cyclic loading on the surface morphology and pit concentration is demonstrated. Harmonic character of the loading dependence of the change of corrosion resistance is due to segregation effects.

Abstract — The corrosion and electrochemical behavior of carbon steels in standard 0.5% chloride electrolytes acidified with CH3COOH and saturated with H2S was studied. The possibility of protecting steels with quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) obtained by reactions of secondary and tertiary amines with benzyl chloride was investigated. It was found that the protective properties of QASs depend on their chemical structures and can be expressed, to a first approximation, in terms of the Linear Gibbs Energy Relation with the use of the hydrophobic f constants and Taft *-constants of the substituents. The presence of hydrophobic and electron-accepting substituents was found to enhance the protective properties of the inhibitors.

Abstract — In calculations, not only the Gibbs formation energy of nickel and chromium oxides and thermodynamic activities of the alloy components, but also the Gibbs surface energy of a Ni–Cr alloy is taken into account. The method is based on the adsorption model of the alloy oxidation, according to which the adsorption of an alloy component with the smaller surface energy, namely, nickel, at the alloy–oxide film interface bound-ary shifts the dynamic equilibrium between the alloy and oxide-film components toward the formation of NiO. For the oxidation of Ni–Cr alloys, which are solid solutions with an fcc lattice, at 1123 to 1473 K, concentration boundaries of the chromium content in the alloy are calculated for the case of the prevailing formation of Cr2O3 oxide, which determines the high heat resistance of Ni–Cr alloys.
